Among the most representative traditions of Saltillo and its surroundings you’ll find the horseback rides and festivals like the San Isidro Labrador celebration in Arteaga; the celebration of the Holy Christ of the Chapel celebrated every august with the typical dances of “Tlaxcaltecas” and “Matachines”, with a walk arranged by all the people in Saltillo, in addition to processions and church services. On September, you’ll feel the devotion at its best among the processions and dances in the Ojo de Agua celebration; last, in October, the celebration of San Francisco is held. Saltillo also offers visitors several activities to enjoy the city and its surroundings to the fullest. What to Do in Saltillo?

Rock Climbing & Rappelling.

The Natural Park of the Arteaga Sierra, 54 km away from the city, features canyons such as Los Lirios, endowed by rocky areas and walls perfect for adventurous sessions; San Lorenzo Canyon is only 5 km to Saltillo’s south, this place features walls over 2,000 meters high among a protected forest zone that is overwhelmed by pine tree vegetation.

Skiing.

Monterreal Forest, also within the Natural Park of the Arteaga Sierra homes an interesting site for tourism. There is an artificial surface that emulates snow, given that weather conditions in Arteaga Sierra are suitable for this activity during all year round.

Mountaineering.

Arteaga Sierra is a natural reserve with multiple peaks and mountain chains of abundant vegetation that offers the possibility to discover and challenge your physical abilities. This mountain chain is ideal to climb over natural elevations such as Martha Mountain and De la Viga Mountain of respectively 3,700 and 3,550 meters above the sea level where you can appreciate the wonderful tree presence of pine, cedar and Encino.

Mountain Biking.

This tour consists in several kilometers of distance that cover La Carbonera and Las Alazanas canyons, which are popular in the region due to its challenging routes and tracks. This park is located within 54 km towards the east of Saltillo, via State highway.
